The story of Rancho Alena begins in 1961 when my grandfather, Guido (Al) Guaspari, realized his dream of starting a ranch to breed and raise grass fed Black Angus cattle. The ranch was founded by Al & Lena Guaspari,(hence the name Alena) in the small town of Bethel Island, California. Roundups, brandings, vaccinations & fence mending were all part of the work load and Al and Lena never had to look too hard for helping hands. Their only son Al jr., along with his wife Norma and their six children, were eager to help with the many chores associated with ranching and would spend as much time on the ranch as possible on weekends and summers. Al's grandson James, would grow up to share the same passion for ranching as he did and would one day return to take the dream to the next level.
Today's Rancho Alena Cattle Co. is focused on raising Pure Bred Wagyu and Angus cross cattle. Our beef is raised exclusively for the Avenir Restaurant Group whose founder and owner, Greg St.Claire, is an active partner in the ranch. His goal is simple; to produce the best tasting, healthiest beef available to meet the growing demands of health conscious consumers. We are proponents of sustainable farming and committed to raising our cattle in a natural and healthy environment. Our cattle are 100% natural and no growth hormones or antibiotics are ever used. Wagyu is also the perfect product to cater to the growing localvore movement that is taking off across the nation, particularly here in the Bay Area. The appeal of eating locally produced, naturally raised food that is also high quality and a healthy choice makes sense on a lot of levels and our beef fits right in with this increasingly popular lifestyle.
Avenir Restaurant Group owns and operates some of the finest restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please click on the link to learn more about their restaurants.
